"Another picture-perfect flight - IMC outside - VFR inside :) Symbolic Flight is just like VFR - on approach the runway you are going to land on stays in the middle of the screen (and gets bigger) as you approach it!!" -Nat S.

FAQ: How can I fly with no internet?

In version 5 Advanced you can fly anywhere, anytime, in the lower 48 without a network.  All the necessary imagery and terrain is stored on the Thumb Drive and goes where it goes.  You can, of course, also Plan and PreFly without a connection.

In Version 5 both Advanced and Primary you can Flight Plan with an internet connection on the ground, then PreFly once.  The imagery and terrain will be cached on the local drive of that machine.   You can then go fly anytime and the imagery…

Congrats on 5.0 release - please consider a high resolution version

Hello,

Getting 5.0 out was a major accomplishment and I think it is a breakthrough product which will be very popular. However, I was hoping that you would have released a version that has higher terrain resolution. Squeezing it all down to a few gigabytes is perhaps too much compression. I would have been happier with a higher resolution version that I could place on my 128 gig solid state drive. I understand there are distribution issues with this much data, but there are 64 GB USB…

5.0 Ships

No internet required...at least for the lower 48 States of the USA.  [Internet and PreFly still an option for the rest of Planet Earth.]   All the satellite imagery and terrain data for the lower 48 are stored on the thumb drive.

Also it has been made simpler, faster, easier to use.  Touch any airport, airspace or obstacle and see its information, including distance and bearing.  Fly Direct-to.  Change the approach with a single click--and see the course and missed drawn in…

Why the 5.0 Delay?

It’s all about the data.

5.0 operates standalone , without any internet connectivity.  That means all the sat. imagery and elevation data are local.  The source data devolves into tens of millions of files and many terabytes of data.  Once that’s been created it needs to get reprocessed and shrunk enough to work on a tablet.  The goal is the elevation data match the resolution of the imagery, with the threshhold target resolution for Symbolic Flight 5.0 being 1 meter.

Resolving…

Higher Resolution request redux

Paul, I'll state right up front that this is a great product. I watched the recently added mp4 videos last night and they gave me a good feel for version 5. However, I don't plan to purchase the program at the present time and I wanted to tell you why. I have used MountainScope for a number of years and have been happy with it. However, it has a major weakness in that if I where to have an engine failure while IMC or at night the terrain database in MountainScope provides no information as to…See More
